The vast and sparsely populated terrain of Tanzania allows for nature to be at its best. The traverse through the landscape, this young Makonde man uses a stick to assist him. The carving is made from the African Blackwood, or Mpingo tree, whose dark center allows for beautiful handiwork. The designs are left to the imagination of the artist. Placing an assortment of such figures above the fireplace could really bring out the charm of these carvings.
